Ex POF Ki84 Frank...was flown in Japan in 1973

Before being grounded. Look at 4:40

I'm guessing it was flown by Don Lykins in that video.

Did you notice all the trash on the ramp in the crowd area? Yikes!

In 1973 it toured through Japan and displayed its magnificent flight. It was returned to Japan in 1978. It was flyable at that time. But now it can not fly! It is very difficult to maintain flyable old airplanes in Japan. It was exhibited in Arashiyama museum, Kyoto until 1991. Now, this Frank belongs to Chiran-cho in Kagoshima prefecture, Japan

Like always James.......you have the info :drink3:

Tks for the link and interesting on the landing retract locks not working!!!!

This explains why all the pictures I ever saw shows the landing gear hanging down a bit!

That video is full of interesting stuff, but seeing the Frank was amazing. Thanks for sharing! If only there was an accurate soundtrack!

This reminds of a question I have always wanted to ask someone. Is there sport flying in Japan and why is there seemingly no warbird movement?

If you freeze at 4:45 it looks like the gear has not retracted fully.

Well it does seem that the tide is turning with the arrival of one of the three Disney Zeros in Japan. It is expected to remain airworthy and flown.

Quite frankly, the soundtrack sounds like it came from a Fuji LM-1 (T-34 copy) rather than a radial engine.

I saw that too - see the link posted by bdk: http://www.warbirdsforum.com/topic/5929 ... -84-frank/

Much of the film had no sound, so I'd say it's added in afterward.

Chappie - I think it's been discussed, but there doesn't really seem to be much private/sport flying over there. Certainly very little - if any - warbirding. I'm sure I've read that Harada-san wants to fly one of his Zeros but the authorities won't allow it, hopefully DaveM2 can chime in as I think he's had contact?
