Acceptance Date vs Delivery Date

I'm looking at the Aircraft History Card from the Navy for PV-2, BuNo 37524
The card has at the top
Acceptance Date 5-28-45
Delivery Date 12-26-45

Does that mean that the contact to build the plane was accepted May 28th, 1945, but was not delivered to the Navy until December 26th 1945?

7 months to build the plane?
What does Accepted Date mean?

Acceptance date is the day that the DD-250 is signed by the contract representative for the service. The DD-250 when signed means that the contacting agency takes ownership of the item and authorizes final payment.

Delivery date is when the a/c is actually ferried out from the manufacturer or modification center.

There are any number of reasons that there was such a span between acceptance and delivery. There could have been modifications, equipment failures, could have been bailed back to the company for testing, or at that time of the war, just held in flight ready storage.

would the Navy assign the Bureau Number (BuNo)
at the acceptance date or at the delivery date?

BuNo is assigned on the production contract. So, if the Navy buys 35 a/c, the BuNos are assigned on the production contract as well as the manufacturers serial numbers long before the first rivet is bought. Sequence numbers if used are assigned when production scheduling is notified of the buy and delivery schedule.
