In search of Mariner info

Tue May 05, 2015 11:35 am

Hi gang,

After reading a few (more) Mariner books I've come across a few references stating that 30 cals we're fitted to the bow hatches.
Try as I may I cannot find a pic of it.

It was a field mod for sure, I dont know if they added a gun mount ball to the door or what was done.

Any extra info would be greatly appreciated.

Don Sweet mentions it in both "The Sailor Aviators" and "Sea Planes at War", however none of my other ref's allude to it.

May have been a VPB21 specific mod.

Thanks in advance!

Shawn

It was common for a bow mounted ball turret to be fitted to the PBM used for combat patrols
