Mon Apr 27, 2015 5:56 am

Got another batch of 1970's era photos from Leon Cleaver (Woodsy Airfield) to share. First up: SNJ-4 N6419D, c/n 88-13369, dated July 1973:

And a sad update, taken November 8, 1975 at Causey's Airport in Julian, NC:

This photo appeared in Air Classics, April 1976, page 12. It (and some more I'll be posting) was taken by Claude Sheaffer of Greensboro, NC. According to Leon:
Woodsy Airfield wrote:I met Claude in the Greensboro, NC area when retrieving the F2H-3 remains, and he was very helpful as I broke down the bird over 3 trips. He was a young fellow - very up with military aviation - but was tragically killed shortly after I was finished with the Banshee. It seems to me he perished while riding along in another T-6...

NTSB report: http://www.ntsb.gov/_layouts/ntsb.aviat ... 5182&key=0

Checking Aerial Visuals, the aircraft is listed as being rebuilt as N24554, BuNo 27245, which is currently flying with the MAAM as Miss Ginny, but it has a different c/n: 88-12281. Were two airframes combined to make one aircraft?
