Remember the 24PG and Bataan!

Sat Apr 18, 2015 7:19 am

A few days ago marked the anniversary of the fall of Bataan. Very important to remember the people that were fighting a delaying action. Too bad they aren't remembered more. :(

Also remember the 24 PG that fought valiantly against overwhelming Japanese aircraft. They are true heroes to me and I wish more people would talk about them. Green USAAC pilots flying P-40B's, P-40E's, P-35A's, P-26's, and NAA A-27's against seasoned Japanese pilots and crews. :( They are my heroes! Nothing like a lone pilot flying into a gaggle of Japanese aircraft, with a P-40! :drink3:

I went to the PI in 2002 with Bataan vets for the 60th Anniversary. I met several former 24th PG
men form the 17th and 34th Pursuit Squadrons.

I used to meet a man who had been Buzz Wagner's crew chief just before the war. He used to facilitate Wagner's offering rides in his P-40 to his date for the weekend. This man also adopted the name Buzz. Captured at Bataan he ended up as slave labor in a coal mine in Japan until one August day he noticed a very bright light and a loud bang about 20 miles away at Nagasaki.
