P-51D Quick Silver(?) on TV "Appalachian Outlaws "History Ch

Mon Mar 09, 2015 3:50 pm

So, Channel surfing last night & on the History Channel's Appalachian Outlaws, I see a bunch of ya hoos running around with Cameramen behind them, being chased & shot at over Ginseng ! (with the same company's camera people on BOTH SiDES !!??!!?) and along comes a little yellow (cub?) & picks up this one goober, while the other goobers who were shooting at him shake their fist , "Why I atta..", at the plane picking up G.#1. Glad they knew NOT ( ) to shoot down Ze plane. So as I roll my eyes  like most of you are doing to this post, the little yellow plane lands & pulls into a Hanger WITH the P-51 Quick Silver in it ! Any idea what the #@#@ a nice Mustang was doing in a show like that ? Apologies in Advance! Tony
PS, you see how this all ties in with History!

The same reason any respectable warbird owner puts their plane into any show/movie/music video. Can't keep the plane flying if you don't have the money to do it and believe it or not, most of the planes out there on the air show circuit earn their airworthiness rather than having someone front the cost of flying it.

With our C-123, we have been in various TV shows, Low Budget films like the "Naked Man", a High Budget Film; X-Men: Days of Future's Past, promotional videos and even a music video.

Makes sense being paid for the use of the airplanes for dramatic purposes and even tho there is a Big Revenge factor ( Explosions..etc) in the show, it's a GOOD Thing we All know there's NO Way the producers ( and Everyone else for that matter) would endanger these beautiful Birds! It was just a Shock Factor Not expecting a P-51 in that Show! I 'm sure Fans of the show are still excited over all the action! pop2

Actually the Cub belongs to my son Greg. He keeps it in Lewisburg and Scooter does fly it as well as takes care of it. Scooter is top notch guy, and has a LOT of Cub and Super Cub time (several thousand hours). Also in one shot you can see the nose of Scooter's T-34 which is the lowest time T-34 there is; as well as being one of the nicest ones flying.

BTW use of Cub in the show was uncompensated. No money changed hands.

Shot of Greg (front seat) and Cub without Scooter in it.

Thanks for the info Mark H, I'm bias, of course, but the real stars of that episode were the Airplanes!

Thanks for the info Mark. Compensated or not, getting that exposure does get more knocks on the door. :)

I second that!

Should have added that possibility to my original post rather than imply it was solely for being compensated as free publicity can be just as lucrative if not more so than money itself.
