Musashi Wreck Discovered (March 2015)

The wreck of the WWII Japanese super-battleship Musashi, sunk by US naval aircraft in 1944, has been found by a Paul Allen-backed expedition to the Sibuyan Sea.

I hope since he's in the general neighborhood that he heads up to the San Bernadino Straits and looks for the ships sunk in the Samar battle -- Gambier Bay, Hoel, Johnston and Samuel Roberts on the American side, and a bunch of cruisers and destroyers on the Japanese side.

Where have you been ? The Yamato was found long ago, now if they could find the Shinano, then the trio would be complete.

an expedition to the South China Sea in 1982 produced some results, but the wreckage discovered could not be clearly identified.[52] A second expedition returned to the site two years later, and the team's photographic and video records were later confirmed by one of the battleship's designers, Shigeru Makino to show the Yamato '​s last resting place. The wreck lies 290 kilometres (180 mi) southwest of Kyushu under 340 metres (1,120 ft) of water in two main pieces; a bow section comprising the front two thirds of the ship, and a separate stern section.
Yamato lies at 30-22 N, 128-04 E in the depth of 1.410 feet about 50 miles southwest of Kyushu, Japan.

I have been reading about the USS Hornet's (CV-8) sinking at Guadacanal. Has this ship ever been found and photographed? How about the Wasp?

I understand they were looking for the Yamato and found steel that could be from the ship on Ascension Island, when asked to explain how it came to be on a island off the west coast of Africa Tighar explained that the undersea currents were quite strong and swept the ship as it was sinking the length of the pacific, around the tip of South America and up the east side of the South America continent. Tighar is now raising funds to launch a search for the wreckage, the search will be conducted from a unnamed island in the Caribbean, they said the best time to search is January or February.

I was just reading that some of the wreckage turned up in Lake Michigan just off shore here in my hometown!
