Hudson Twp. -- Plane buzzes couple
A Toledo couple reported to the Michigan State Police that they were buzzed by what appeared to be a World War II-era airplane June 16 while they were fishing on Lake Hudson.
A report released Tuesday said the couple were in their canoe with their dog at 5:30 p.m. when they saw the plane circling the lake. Then they heard what sounded like a speed boat coming up behind them, then the plane passed overhead at an altitude of 15-20 feet before climbing sharply and flying away in an east-northeasterly direction.
The couple and the Lake Hudson State Park campground hosts described the plane as a World War II-era plane, gun metal gray in color with a bright orange cowling.
A trooper went to the Lenawee County Airport to see if the plane had been there. A pilot who had just arrived said he saw a similar plane, possibly an AT-6 Texan, taking off, the report said. The airport's fuel log did not identify the pilot or plane, and pilots do not have to check in when they use the airport because of its size.

Now there are some sketchy details! I guess next time I'll have to make sure that I don't check in after flying too, or else the troopers might be after me as well.
On a related topic, I got some paperwork from the state of Illinios that indicates that pilots residing in Illinois are required to REGISTER THEIR PILOTS LICENSE WITH THE STATE! WHAT A CROCK! First they close Meigs Field, then they start registering pilots. What's next- personal property tax on aircraft? Oh, wait! They already have that... What a bunch of busybodies!

Living in Michigan, and knowing all the 'usual suspect' T-6 owners, I can happily say this description does not match any of their aircraft! I swear.... :0) Jim

Why would people complain about a private airshow? I would row out in a canoe just for that!!!

I have a hard time beliving that if the A/C was only 15-20 ft off the water that they didn't go for a swim.
That reminds me of a story about a P-40E that would do something like that to ice fishermen. I for one would love to be buzzed by a AT-6 or P-40 while fishing.

Same thing had to be done in NH for a long time - now I think it is just airplanes that need to be registered with the state. For a while you actually had to travel to the state capital (Concord, NH) and go to the DOT to register... no easy forms at the local airport. Thank goodness NH is a tiny state.

Well, I would love to have it done (safely) and wouldn't mind doing it except that it's strictly against the FARs... and of course, think of what could happen to your T-6 if something went a bit wrong. Like I said before, I would enjoy it, but I would also think it just a bit irresponsible.
