Thu Jan 29, 2015 6:28 pm

The following lists are of aircraft that were offered through the DOD Surplus Catelog venue. These military aircraft remains are essentually broken up scrap - not being offered as a possible flyer. I thought maybe those WIX members that are looking for a souvenir or are parts collectors may find the lists useable. For full explanation of subject, please refer to same title above, except use - 1970.

Helps to have serials!
T-33A 53-5724, or part of it, survives. This info from millionmonkeytheater.com:
*6/1955: Transferred to the Belgian AF as FT-25.
*3/26/1976: Damaged beyond repair in a ground fire at Brustem AB.
*Was preserved at Zele.
*Was preserved at Essene.
*Currently preserved along the M40 motorway between Brussel and Oostende, mated with the wings of FT-33.

Oddly FT-33, ex 55-3041, was quoted as "Crashed in the town of Velm on approach to Brustem AB. USAF exchange pilot was killed" on June 13, 1977. Strange there would be usable wings after that crash?

F-84F 52-7138 was written off much earlier, in 1956. Again from MMT:
*11/1955: Transferred to the Belgian AF as "FU-18".
*3rd Squadron (2nd Wing) as "YL-Q".
*4/23/1956: Crashed after engine exploded at Florennes AB.
*Wreck Salvaged at Evere.

So the wreck sat around another 22 years...?

Chris - I wish there was more serial numbers listed that were associated with the remains. Your records are most interesting. I have many sales catelogs with whole aircraft or possible restoration/flyers, which list the serials, but it would be a monster to put info up on a simular format. Many catelogs also list serials even though they must be demiliterized as part of contract. Some catelogs may have 50 or so serials/BuNos alone. All the info from those catelogs have been passed on to Sid Nanson (SIDSIKO)... :|

Oops! Forgot to add this one:

Woodsy Airfield wrote:Newspaper photo is of possible new owner of B-66 circa 1980. John Coyne of New Richmond, Ohio was a collector of about anything including a driveable tank. Mr Welty was a race car driver and owned a couple of military vehicles. According to a note I made on this item, the B-66 remains was a nose section only...Just sayin'

Update: Edited to add photo:

"0-4011" is visible in the second photo, and there were only three that would have had that partial serial. This must be 54-112, which was a YRF-105B that became a GJF-105B ground trainer at Chanute in 1970 (although millionmonkeytheater.com lists it as "salvaged in 2000").
