Tue Jan 27, 2015 2:33 pm

The following lists are of aircraft that were offered through the DOD Surplus Catelog venue. These military aircraft remains are essentually broken up scrap - not being offered as a possible flyer. I thought maybe those WIX members that are looking for a souvenir or are parts collectors may find the lists useable. For full explanation of subject, please refer to same title above, except use - 1970.

Well, that was a wild goose chase. Found a map of the Naval Ordnance Station and even located shots of the two base scrapyards, but they were from 1998. Checked it out on historicaerials.com and 1963 was the nearest date, but it was too blurry to pick out anything.
Any B-29 mavens care to chime in? Could this have come from Aberdeen?

Chris - I am not surprised about your "no luck track-down" in regards to B-29 buyer. As I recall, before the sale had ended, I tried to gonger up some interest by calling the Confederate Air Force, Bradley Air Museum and the Florence Air & Space Museum - but no interest was forwarded. I asked for a couple of snap-shots, which the disposal offices would send on request at that time, and they showed the center section about 50 ft long with the wing point of attachment showing. The fuselage section looked pretty good from the black and white pics - thinking that the acquisition would have been worthwhile. Hopefully some parts of it are still out there waiting for the customer.... :(

About the only thing that can be made out is where the wing attached to fuselage. The 3rd pic shows forward tunnel entrance. I asked for photos from property disposals in other bids and it seems they have a cheap film which eventually fades. Don't know if you can use these. No serial info.

I'm posting these for now, but Leon is being kind enough to send me the originals of all his photos which I'll scan in high resolution and edit into the messages.

These images are badly faded, but I did what I could. Note the two colored bands on the aft part of the fuselage. Wonder what they used this for? It doesn't look shot up or burnt.
