Offered for sale for the first time ever is the original Dambusters wooden 'Dann' bomb sight This odd instrument, the brain child of Wg Cdr Dann, is the actual item used during the famous 'Dambusters' raid on the Mohne dam on the 17th May 1943 by the bomb aimer John Fort, on board the AJ-J- the fifth aircraft to attack the Mohne Dam as piloted by David Maltby. The 'bouncing bomb' guided by this very sight, was the one that successfully breached the Mohne dam and flooded the western Ruhr region, changing the course of the second world war.

Looking at the sight, was the drop point when the two tabs lined up with the ends of the dam looking thru the eye hole??

IIRC the 'drop point' was when the two outer tabs lined up on the two flak towers on the dam. This would give a precise distance from the dam wall. Bomb aimer would hold this sight in one hand and the bomb release in the other.

May be wrong though.
