in 1954 u.s. air force colonel Benjamin o. davis was promoted to brigadier general, the 1st black officer to achieve that rank in the usaf.

in 1962 during the Cuban missile crisis, a u-2 reconnaissance aircraft was shot down killing the pilot usaf major Rudolf Anderson jr. while flying over Cuban airspace.

In one of the UPT squadron buildings at Laughlin, Texas (the U-2 operating base) there is a very nice display on Major Anderson, including one of high altitude pressure suits.
I don't think they have that much on him at the NMUSAF.

By the way, why don't you capitalize USAF? You capitalize the names, so we know your caps button works. :)
