As much as it hurts to see an old aircraft wrecked, I'm always most grateful when no one is seriously hurt.

Very glad to see the pilot is ok- a little beat up, but still good. Sucks about the Birddog though, that was a really pretty example... looking at the footage of the bits on the beach, maybe it's just the eternal optimist in me, but it looks like there's enough there to rebuild. The question would be, would it even be worth it (financially speaking, not emotionally)?

I think you could buy more than one flying Bird Dog, for what rebuilding this one would cost.

With the wing ripped from the fuselage there would be some serious structural damage.
Once everything is immersed in sea water, it's a lot of work to make it right again. If it is even possible.

Pick off the salvageable bits and say goodbye to this ol' girl. :(

Yep, saltwater's a killer. Tempting as it is to feel heartbroken seeing that airplane that way, the pilot hopping off the jetski makes it nuthin'. It was a good day.

If it can't fly again, would make for a great museum diorama in a museum of a shot down bird dog with some jungle foliage all around.
Just sayin'...
