Another crated spitfire found adjacent to active runway

Sorry, I couldn't resist. While showing visiting in-laws around, I promised that I'd show them a real spitfire before climbing Mt. Washington to see the endangered marmots that live there.

I was surprised to find a flurry of trucks and activity. And lo and behold, there WAS a crated spitfire next to the active runway. This, of course, is the well-known Mark IX Y2K project recently sold to Vintage Wings of Canada. See http://comoxairforcemuseum.ca/fly-away-home/

To call the day serendipitous would be...exactly correct.
And the marmots proved to be no less cooperative!

It'll be nice to see it fly as a testament to Mark de Vries who did so much to gather together the bare bones of this aeroplane while in RSA. Such a shame he didn't live long enough to see his dream come true.
