Waterbomber Memorial Flight?

Thu Sep 04, 2014 1:22 pm

Hi all,

I don't keep up with WIX on a daily basis, so excuse me if this question has been posed before.

I've often wondered why there isn't some kind of vintage waterbomber organisation/display act over there in the US. N America has a long history of using waterbombers, thousands of fires have been tackled and many crews have lost their lives over the years. Would it not be fitting to have some kind of airshow act to honour all this history?

There's also the added bonus of the spectacle, what airshow crowd wouldn't enjoy a few pyro's and then a water drop to put it out after?

It seems like a winner on all counts at first glance.

I've seen a number of demo drops at air shows when I lived on the West Coast. Saw the 747, the DC-10 the Martin Mars and a PBY long ago. Of course, living in SoCal, you don't need to go to an airshow to see them in action each year. Nothing more fun than hanging out at the San Bernardino Tanker Base and watching them come and go. There is a Facebook group dedicated to the fire bombers, and its way active right now with everything going on.
