This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Hi All,
I'm new to the board so I thought I'd introduce myself and ask for a little information. I've been interested in WWII Military History since I was kid and that was long before the internet. My main area of interest has been the ETO ground forces but I've always enjoyed Aviation and Naval subjects. Now that I'm retired I enjoy adding to my library and research files.
My current project is my Uncle's service in the Southwest Pacific. I'm trying to find information on two F4U Corsairs that
appear in snapshots from his photo album. The fuselage Numbers are 142 and 785. One or both may belong to VMF-212
which was on Vella Lavella about the time my Uncle was stationed there. Both planes were wrecked so there's little to see except undersides and the photos are fair at best.
I'm trying to find information about the planes and Acorn Units, especially the hospitals since my uncle served in three
during the war. No scrap of info is too small. I've ordered some files from NARA and I've collected minimal info from FOLD3.
Thanks & Best Regards,
Robert

If you could post up pics of the planes or anything else you have that may help some of the knowledgeable guys here pick out some clues to start working with.
