Hey all!
I've been looking into flight sim skins, and came across this P-47:

I like do research before I make a skin so I can ensure historical accuracy. While I have been abe to find that it's supposed to be from the 511fs of the 405th fg, I haven't found and sources verifying its serial code (44-46789 is from the cancelled P-75 contract, 44-67xxx are Uc-43s or B-26s), or that this plane even existed.
Anybody know about this aircraft?

Cheers!

THere are a number of 405FG sites.

I would be cautious as I cannot recall evr seeing a bubble top D-25 onwards what was Olive Drab. Most were natural silver.

Kind regards

No bubbletop Ds left the factory in OD (camo was dropped during D razorback production), but quite a few were painted that way in the field. In the 8AF, the 78 and 359 FG had some*, there were quite a few in the 9AF, at least one in the 86 FG in Italy, and the French flew some in OD. My own quick research today turned up several OD bubbletops in 405 FG, but I wasn't able to find a photo of the particular airplane in question.

*78FG seemed to use RAF Dark Green on theirs instead of US Olive Drab.
