Different paint scheme on it, reminds me of a FAA Sea Fury or something with the two-tone gray.

Can't be, not with postwar national insignia and invasion stripes (and I'd doubt any T-6s had stripes in WW2 anyway)

Well, i'm sure this one didn't ever have invasion stripes. It has a 1949 serial number.
It may have a "historically incorrect" paint scheme. But I'd still fly in it

I don't think I've ever seen one, but it's not impossible. 8AF had some in use as hacks at the time, and I've seen stripes on L-4s, UC-64s, and all kinds of other weird things.

Are we sure that N722AC (ex N51944) and N9037Z are one and the same?
The odd s/n presentation (49324A) and different buzz number (TA-324) on N722AC make me wonder. Perhaps the partially obscured s/n on N9037Z TA-242 could be something other than 49-3242.

It does appear to be inspired by post-war RN color schemes with the exception of the US national insignia. Just FYI, the black and white stripes were used post-war by the RN but, obviously, are not "invasion stripes" per se.

V isn't allowed any color comments as the gear doors were removed.
Military must have had warehouses of geardoors as they were removed during service at various times.
WWII in Florida I've see photos of a Navy base with almost all the SNJs with them removed and USAF late 50s the same with G models.
This one was probably surplused when they had been removed.
