Photos from Chino (including the boneyard!) from 1983

I have several of the old Kodak Disc camera negs I shot over 20 years ago, and I finally jerry-rigged my scanner to scan them. I haven't seen these images since I lost the prints in one of my moves... Anyway, these are from Chino in 1983.

What is the aircraft with two "cockpits" and the number 04 on the fuselage? The intake at the wing root looks like a P59, but... :shock:

...what an odd configuration.

Any help appreciated :lol:

A few P-59s were modified and used as drone directors or manned target aircraft with a second cockpit installed forward of the main cockpit.

This is one of them :wink:

That B-26 nose is the one that was acquired from a movie studio....it has stateside training markings on it. The ones from Canada didn't have those large numbers on the noses. I think it was sold a few years back but I don't know where it is now. I think that B-24 nose is the one that went off to a museum in Richmond, VA in 1992. Thanks for the great pics.....I remember all that stuff when it was back there before they built the new hangers by the runway. Must have been something when they moved it all over there.

Looks like one of the Tora replicas to me. I think this was quite a few years before PoF got the Deimert Val but I could be wrong on that.

The last 5 are at Planes of Fame. That is the Tora Val replica which didn'y fly again until it was rebuilt for "Pearl Harbor" just a few short years ago. The SBD was restored shortly after that picture was taken (the wings were done first). The YP-59 is under restoration to flying condition.

One of the silver SBDs in Tallichet's yard is now restored with Yanks. I think they were wind machines recovered from a citrus grove.

Hudson or Ventura. I'd also thought Hudson, but you can't really tell from just this I'd guess. Don't forget there's a couple of Venturas at Chino.

There were lots of P-39 fuselages at that time and also alot of stearmans next to that salvage yard.
