Well ive had a very INTERESTING day.
Got an email asking if id be interested in buying an old USAF flight helmet, so said send me back some photos......me thinking it would be the usual standard HGU-55/P and MBU-12/P set up...
Little did i bet the photos would surprise me....the helmet came from drumroll...................
4477thTEF otherwise known as the "Red Eagles".
YES that unit...... that flew the once ultra secret USAF "Migs" jets at Tonopah .... aka Dreamland ranch N2.
A HGU-26/P and MBU-5/P with Red Eagles markings, Red Star and the person name who matching up with research.
So um this helmet doesnt actually exist to some .. but as Have Donut, Have Drill and etc were declassified in 1980s....so the helmet does have some reality to it.
The person i was in touch with worked on the program and this is verified as his name is in some books too.
Sadly he wont sell it now..... but will be donating to Wright Patterson AFB Museum who he said will be making a Red Eagles display.. oh well hope that happens...

I'd be interested to know who it is, if you don't mind. A friend of mine (now deceased) was the first commander of the 4477th. The N number on his Pitts was N4477Z. He and Randy O'Neill were restoring Champs at his place north of Cleburne, TX

Awesome that it will go to the museum. A rare piece of history that deserves to be preserved
