Naval Aviation Museum Status?

Wed Apr 30, 2014 4:14 pm

Looks like Pensacola has been pretty thoroughly trashed by storms and Biblical-grade flooding. Anyone hear how the Museum fared? For that matter, Mobile has gotten pretty soaked as well..I hope Battleship Park came through OK. Of course, some old airplanes are pretty small potatoes compared to the loss of homes and lives. Stay safe, everybody!

When I awoke this morning I heard most of Pensacola was under several feet of water. I hope everyone got thru it ok.

My wife has a lot of family in the area, and they've been posting pics on Facebook all day showing the destruction in P-cola. She just told me that the Mobile Bay causeway is underwater, which doesn't bode well for Battleship Park.

That's great news..thanks for the update! I'm 800 or so miles away, so I doubt I'll be stopping in today, but I'm sure we'll be visiting the Gulf Coast again. We spent a day at BMP last summer..it's definitely a must-see when we're in the neighborhood.

I am in this area. the bridge flooding is due to so much rain and not draining fast enough. Most of he flooding was along streets and waterways. No indication of museum damage at P-cola, Eglin or Hurlburt. P-cola had up to 26" and Eglin up to 16".

TWENTY SIX inches of rain!? I lived in the Panhandle for five years, and we didn't get anywhere near that level of drenching even during Hurricane Opal! No wonder there are so many problems down there... I saw a chunk of Scenic Hwy washed out, and I hope you didn't lose sections of the causeway across Escambia Bay like back in '94.

Stay safe and dry, folks...

Thanks for the info guys..sounds like things are drying out, and the museums are OK.

We drove that stretch of Scenic Highway several times when we were in town last summer..crazy to see it washed out like that. The first time we were through there was '05, a week after Hurricane Dennis took down the sign at the Ramada Inn (with Anderson Cooper giving play-by-play commentary.) Of course, a month later a little girl named Katrina came calling...
