Tue Mar 18, 2014 10:49 am

I recently receive two slides from David Husher. He took these at Guayaquil Ecuador In'l Aprt in 1963. Based on the markings and antenna arrangement I believe this to bo N501MH, 44-271832. Additions and corrections will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

John:

Good Day!

Interesting P-38 shot S. of the border!

This is prob one of poss 3 samples that flew S of the border to conduct aerial surveys & photo-mapping missions. Did this sample made it back to the U.S?

The other sample a red & white P-38 was N6190C left abandoned in Asuncion, Paraguay c. 1960's after a hard landing. It was later recovered by a Canadian guy named Bob Diemert. It is currently at the Fantasy of Flight Museum, Fla waiting for restoration. Other flat black P-38s flew covert ops in the Caribbean c. 1950s.
