Hi,
I recently stumbled on your website while doing some research on C-119s. I'm writing to you because I don't know anyone else who might know . . . do you suppose that whoever owns the C-119 at Battle Mountain would be willing to sell it, and how much it would cost? Do you know by chance who the owners are?
Thanks,
Max

I'd look closely into the condition of the Boxcar in Battle Mountain if the plan is for anything other than static display. When I asked about that airplane at the Battle Mountain Tanker Base about 15 years ago,I was told that it was damaged beyond repair in a very hard landing.

Apparently, the crew took off with the oil cooler doors closed and the oil cooler switches in the Off position on a fire dispatch. This is easier to do than you might think. At any rate, they didn't figure out the cause of both engines rapidly losing oil pressure and barely made it back to the runway and were out of energy when they got there. That's why the airplane ended up in the museum.

It's probably okay for static display, but I doubt that it could be made flyable unless you have very deep pockets.

I know a museum that was making serious enquiries to acquire her . I will find out what transpired!

The C-119 that had the hard landing was T-134. The one parked at the "museum" is T-137, I believe. Last time I saw what was left of T-134, it was sitting about 1/4 mile away from the BAM airport, cut up, not much left of it but the center section.

In any event, T-137 was ferried there under her own power.

The cut up 119 is gone, T-137 is in sad shape, lotsa bird poop inside...but very worthy of static display.

I was trying to find pictures of this bird but first needed to find out the registration... In doing so, I found this bit of info.

T-137, N5216R, is not actually T-137, it is in reality T-136.
The real T-137, N3559, has been at the Dover AFB museum since 1991.
T-136, at grey bill, is also not T-136, but an unknown tanker number.

Thanks for the updates guys.
I have forwarded the contact details asper airnav.com
Should anything else transpire I'd be grateful to learn of it.
The C-119 at Greybull,WY is a fake T136, has 'N5216R' on it but wears N3935 underneath.
Some of the confusion on C-119 Tanker numbers operated by H&P a few years ago is explained on my page http://www.ruudleeuw.com/bmtn.htm
Thanks again!
