Hi all - I'm new to the forum. I need some help with information concerning an altimeter, and I was told on another forum that this is the place to come.

A family friend in New Zealand was left a number of items from the Second World War by his father, a spitfire pilot with a few thousand hours of flight time under his belt, mainly in the European theatre. I've seen his logbooks and he had a long and interesting career. One of the items that he was left was an altimeter. It's a Hohenmesser FL.22320 (the original sticker and serial number are on the back of the device).

The family friend isn't internet-savvy and has always wondered about the altimeter. He understands that it might have come from an ME109. I offered to look in to it for him. I've done some research online and there is conflicting information on what types of planes it was used in. A number of posts say that it was used in ME109s, and also Focker Wolfs and ME262. But these same posts are also trying to sell one, so I'm wondering whether they're trying to make 22320s sound exciting.

Can anyone shed some light on this? I've taken pictures of the altimeter and will happily post them if I can figure out how to post on this forum...

The Fl.22320 is a stock number for a generic 0-10Km altimeter. Most, if not all were made by R.Fuess.
Since altimeters are more or less self contained, it could have been used on anything from a Fw 44 trainer, through bombers, transports or fighters.

I have the exact same instrument that came out of a Fi-156, although like stated it is generic and could be used in most any plane. I have it and a few other German instruments available if anyone needs them.
