American Aero Open Hanger Day

Thu Jan 09, 2014 12:01 pm

Last Saturday American Aero Services in New Smyrna Beach hosted an
Open Hanger Day and Fly -In at their new location on the other side of the airport.

The Collings bombers are there right now getting their winter maintenance.
The Mustang and Corsair are there also along with some others under restoration.

A real nice turn out for a cool (by Florida standards) and overcast day.
Hamburgers and Hot Dogs were good too.
Lot's of fly-ins coming and going during the day.

Thanks for the photos wls3

There are two L-1s there I seem to remember. Both for Pat Harker, who has a third up in Minnesota IIRC.

And warbird kid was asking about the D-model Mustang that is being built up for Collings, not the TP-51C.

Any sign of either of the Fw190s?

Wasn't that Albatross once part of Jerry Yagen's collection?

I believe your right Jerry. Love the Collings bombers, but man.....all those names. Sheesh. It's also about time for a scheme change don't ya think? How 'bout the 90th BG 'Jolly Rogers'? Big shark mouth and skull and cross bombs on the tail?!

I see there were some Vettes there as well. Any shots of those Bill?

Nine O Nine needs paint...bad...BUT its over $100,000 to paint a B-17. The labor of stripping the airframe is monumental, not to mention it would take up to 4 months to complete. AND after running a polished Mustang for 6 years I can g a r a w n t e e it will never be bare metal! :)
