Canadian Hurricane sold

I know there was a thread covering the pending sale but I could not find it
So here is the update :

Hawker Hurricane Mk XII 5481 operated by the Russell Group in Niagara Falls Canada has been sold.
Apparently to a new owner in Australia
While I hate to see her go , I hope that the aircraft will see more time in the air with its new owner, as it has sat for a few years now.

Was discussed here before. Can't find the thread. But nobody on that thread had a reference to where the Hurricane was going so, thanks for the info. Really sad to see her go. I loved the small museum Russell had up there. Now all thats left is the Harvard and the all important ME-109.

Transport Canada has some concerns about corrosion in the centre section if I recall correctly.
Hence the "no unusual attitudes" ruling

I'm amazed that a Hurricane sold for a price that really half a dozen ordinary guys could have split on.

At Vintage Wings, we encountered the same problem with the center section of the Mark XII we bought from Harry Whereatt in Sask.

The center section is difficult to separate from the fuselage, and thus usually doesn't get removed, and corrosion can happen there -- in fact is practically certain to have happened to unrestored airframes.

Thus we built an expensive and highly accurate jig to rebuild/repair a center section, the only one in N. America, and completed the work a couple of years ago. Now the aircraft is awaiting re-assembly and fabric.

I don't anything about the state of the ex-Russell Hurricane (other than it sure looks great on your wingtip from a P-40!).

Hey, I remember that day. Having one of the Harvard Aerobatic Team (Dave Hewitt) on your wing during a display, in a Hurricane, was great fun -- and educational.
