Will the real Doolittle bottle please stand up?

Fri Nov 15, 2013 3:47 pm

So, the story is that Hennessy donated a bottle of 1896 cognac back in the day ... yet the period photo shows a bottle of brandy. And then we were led to believe that the "original" bottle was stolen at USAFA in 1971 and replaced with a bottle of similar cognac from the same year. And then it's made to sound like the original bottle was hidden all along?

With just a few minutes of searching, I found 3 different examples pictured online and, the one with the most simple label (that type that Col Cole opened) is labeled on the NMUSAF site as the "replica bottle". Would love to hear the straight skinny from a reputable source, like Carrol Glines.

I was not aware of the stolen bottle until last year and was interested to see if they would address that during the ceremony. I thought the story of the "substitute" years ago was an interesting--but unresolved--twist. Will be interested to learn the truth.

But how about this....What have the Raider's been toasting with (filling their goblets with) all these years? Cognac? Brandy?
