BETTENDORF, IOWA (AP) --
A retired Air Force lieutenant colonel from Iowa who served as a fighter ace in World War II has died at 93.

Weerts Funeral Home says Richard W. Asbury died Saturday at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. A cause of death was not released.

Asbury entered the Army Air Forces in World War II and became a P-51 fighter pilot. He later served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired as an Air Force lieutenant colonel in 1972.

Asbury's daughter, Jill Asbury, told the Quad-City Times that her father was interviewed multiple times and chronicled in books, but he never bragged about his accomplishments.

A visitation is scheduled Thursday at Weerts Funeral Home. Funeral services are set Friday at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Davenport.
