This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Stallion 51 posted on their facebook page that Mark Bingham has completed the P-51 checkout program and is the new owner of N11636 "Stang Evil" which was owned by Michael Bertz for 38 years... Other than Planes of Fame's "Spam Can" - is this the longest ownership of a Mustang ?

"Stang Evil" was the first P-51 I was able to get "up close and personal" with. I was bumming around Jeffco airport one afternoon in 1983 and wandered into her open hangar. The crew chief took pity on a 19-year-old airplane *geak and let me sit in the cockpit..what an incredible thrill!

This is false and was put in the newspaper by a guy that wants the airplane. I just talked to Mike Bertz in the Reno pits about it. He's owned it 45, not 38 years. It's not for sale and he says that article surprised to read he'd sold it since he hadn't !

Nice to know it will still stay in Colorado - such a great looking plane.

Can't help but add the Tallmantz connection: same airplane as purchased as USAF surplus circa 1959 by Frank Tallman and added to the Tallmantz collection in 1962; sold to Rosen Novak in 1966 to help raise cash for the company. Photo by JD Davis in 1963.

Funny, maybe Michael didn't want to admit it, he flat out denied he'd sold it at Reno!!!

When you're asking about selling a warbird I look at it like you're asking about a persons
personal financial dealing in the millions of dollars (depending on type). Asking a friend is
one thing but otherwise I'd expect a lie, a icy glare or be told to mind my own business.
I don't just look at it has a airplane being sold but big money changing hands between 2 private
parties. MYOB! Just saying........................

Confidentiality agreements sometimes have a way of making liars out of people.
