Had the pleasure of meeting Mr Hosking at Duxford last week where he was having a close look around The Fighter Collection FG-1D.

Hi Tracey,or can I call you "Smiley"?I'm Pete Bradley,I currently work on the Corsair part time doing mostly sheetmetal repairs.I look forward to your research & pics on this airframe as I have seen a fair bit of it closeup in the last 3-4 years.The boss is currently searching for more parts as we speak so hopefully we can speed up progress a little,would like to see it finished in FAH colours but that is up to Graham,Best Wishes,Pete

Great news about 124493, ex-FAH 608. If I may ask, is it being restored to flying status, and where is it currently located?
I hope being able to return to Australia someday and watch this old warbird once again.
About your request, it will be my pleasure to gather some historical information about this Corsair while in service with the Honduran Air Force, and pass it on to you "down under".
I understand and share your concern about obtaining a legitimate photograph -and copyright- of ex-FAH 608. There are just too many "doctored" photographs around.
Although I don't have one at this moment, I will do my best to obtain it for you, shortly, I hope.
According to my records, 124493 is not a F4U-5L.
124441/124503 Vought F4U-5N Corsair
[i]124493 to Honduras AF as FAH-608. Sold in 1979. On civil registry in Australia.
I will however, verify the USN Service Record for ex-FAH Corsairs, which I keep at my office.
If you wish, you may PM me an e-mail address where I can send the data.

Hi Amado,yes,definitely being restored to airworthiness,rebuild has been in progress for about 7 years and is at the stage where the airframe is structurally complete with wings on and the bulk of the wing fold & landing gear & hydraulic systems installed.All tail surfaces have been rebuilt and attention is now on the manufacture & fit of the oil coolers and lower fairings.Next mission is the repair/remanufacture of gear doors & fairings and then on going systems installations after that.Regards,Pete

We captured 493 last time at Ft. Lauderlale, FLA June-1987 before its trip across the pond! Its nickname with FAH was "Mosquitia Fighter". Written on both sides of the eng cowling. We are looking for a few pics for all to see! C/w.com

The FAH-609 carried at one time the name "Snap Shot" and on the instrument panel was also written the word "Sulfato"(sulphate),which according to the pilot,was what the exhaust fumes smelled like when the engine was started.
Other FAH Corsairs carried names given by their pilots,as well.

Found an interesting mod/id plate that may be applicable to your F4U-5N. It is located in the R/S aft section of the radio/battery compartment access panel. (Looking Fwd).
Yours may me covered with primer or heavy paint but in case it's still in place, we are interested to know the ID numbers on the S/N line. Tks in advance for the assistance & good luck!!
p.s This mod plate comes from our FAH 609 F4U-5NL Buno 124715!!

Another Vought F4U-5N will soon take to the Australian skies! Congratulations to Mr. Hosking & crew for a job well done! Certainly, nowadays you can't go wrong restoring a Corsair!
While is advertised as almost ready, in F4U language that means some 6-9 months off. All depending on the bugs found along the way. Photo Ozfuryfan via Wix. c. 2012

Excellent! I LOVE the choice of markings! Always great to see a different part of history honored with a paint scheme.
