Hello,
Can anyone identify this unknown (at least for me) aircraft turret.
Absolutely no info about it except that it's using a N-6 gunsight and so should be WWII.
Thanks
Laurent

I'm not good on turrets, but it looks like a ball turret on it's side with most of the panels removed.

Rotate the photo to the right and you will find a Bendix upper turret used on the B-25 series of aircraft.

Great picture of a Bendix upper turret, thank you for posting it. This helps show the cable routing for the G9 gun solenoids, which I was unsure of. May I ask what the source is, and if more detailed pictures like this are available?

Thanks for rotating the image right side up.
The stainless steel cone like objects are rollers for the ammunition to change direction to feed the guns. You can see a pawl that rides near the major diameter that kept the ammo from slipping back.
Check out the cool early Colt slotted cooling jacket seen on the pre war production guns.
Great photo

Taigh,
Thank you. Had always looked at this photo (scan only) with reference to the gunsight in a classic vertical position. It was obviously a mistake!
Nate,
This photo comes from the Wright Field archives at Wright Patterson AFB and was copied by a collector friend in the early seventies. My understanding is that those archives haves now been split between the AF Museum and NARA.
Enoy your day,
Laurent
