7000 ft. grass runway and a steak!

Triple Tree Aerodrome (SC00) located near Woodruff, SC is hosting a huge fly-in Sept. 4-8. We would like to offer all of you warbird guys and girls a little different experience from the airshows you normally attend. The idea is to offer you a chance to do what all the rest of us do at Triple Tree, relax and enjoy other aviators and their airplanes. No airshow schedule, no media to satisfy, no dinner parties, no requirement to fly on a rigid airshow schedule, no requirement to dress nice and sign autographs.....just show up, relax and have a good time. We can offer you the perfect runway (7,000x400 ft ultra-smooth grass), a restored WWII control tower, great people, wonderful food and pure relaxation. Your airplanes, rather than being "assaulted" by an excited non-aviation educated crowd, will be lovingly admired by aviators that are used to being around beautifully restored airplanes. The Triple Tree fly-in is not open to the general public. Triple tree offers unparalleled camping, six miles of hiking trails, fishing lakes, a BBQ dinner where a thousand people are served in under 20 minutes, beautifully restored aircraft and a cook-your-own steak night held on a patio overlooking an incredible lake.

Maybe you shouldn't believe everything that is wtitten on the internet without a little research of your own....

From the Triple Tree website:

"Spectator - $10.00 Daily fee (under 12 free)

All Spectators MUST be a Current member of EAA, AOPA, AMA, any Full Scale Flying Organization, possess a Full Scale Pilot's License or be a guest of the aforementioned! Your Host must be at the gate when you purchase your tickets."

Are you a member of any of the listed dviation related organizations (you should be).

When you go onto the website click on the "Triple Tree Fly-in" link. Then click on the "Pricing and Registration" link. It explains it in a little more detail.

Tough crowd so far.

This sounds like a real special spot.
I won't be able to make it this year but I'll definitely add it to my list of places to visit.
I could probably do six touch and goes on a 7000 foot strip , maybe seven with a headwind!

And why's that? I'm a current licensed private pilot but I fail to see why you think people should be a member of your listed organizations. I also don't care for the "members, or guests of, only allowed" approach. There are some very dedicated folks out there who respect aviation much more than many members of the list of organizations you list who are NOT members of any organization or group. I would have suggested an 'invitation only' approach instead of a 'restrictive' approach ... but that's just me. FWIW

Perhaps the reason the number of actual pilots who frequent this board is countable on two hands is because of the incessant bitching and moaning from chaps like you ranging from rain at Virginia Beach to "incorrect" paint hues on other peoples property that you have not contributed to financially.

Guess I should have read the website better then. I would have thought something as pertinent as who can or cannot attend would be listed on the main page. Looks like an awesome place for a fly-in and I wish them all the best with it.

The membership thing doesn't appeal to me because I have a career that allows me neither the time nor income to pursue a pilot's license. Doesn't make sense to pay dues for something I won't get any sort of benefit from. I will (and do) gladly contribute to museums. I can assume that the stipulations for being a guest at the fly-in makes it attractive to a lot of pilots so I definitely understand it. I'm sure it's nice for pilots to be around their own without having the danger of someone's kid jumping on an elevator or smearing their ice cream around a nice paint job.

Didn't mean to come across as b*tchy about the membership thing, it was just surprising to me since it wasn't advertised that way in anything I had previously read (which I probably just missed). Maybe someday if I get a pilot's license I'll fly-in, as it looks like a great place.

Look forward to seeing pictures if anyone goes.
