Glad nobody was hurt...

Reno Air Races CEO Mike Houghton says two planes at the Reno-Stead Airport touched mid-air during a pylon racing seminar, but no one was hurt.

The incident happened just before 5 p.m. Thursday.

Houghton says one jet landed fine, while the pilot inside the second plane elected not to use the landing gear for safety. He came touched the belly of the plane down at about 140 MPH before skidding to a stop 2-thousand feet away. Fortunately both pilots were unharmed.

Wel done to the pilots.

If there had been a fire, would that garden hose have been much use? It looks a little bit inadequate for dealing with a burning aeroplane.

It's a foam line. It would have most likely been sufficient. Even if it wasn't, the truck it was hooked to would be sufficient.

Mid-air with another L-39, which also landed safely. (On its wheels even.)

That red hose in the picture is a line for an air hose. Not a garden hose, not a foam hose. Like the hose you would use to power air equipment or inflate tires/tyres. The giveaways are the color of the line, the air fitting on the tip and the black ball near the end which prevents the hose from retratcting too far onto it's storage reel. Likely used in the recovery effort to get some air into the system.
