Starfighter at Alberta Aviation Museum-update

Tue Jun 11, 2013 7:46 pm

Just a quick update

Our Starfighter is well underway

The tail section was sent out and stripped, returned in bare metal
The fuselage was flat towed(!) about 2 miles to the shop and is currently about 1/2 stripped
Cockpit renovation is well underway

Still waiting for the engine and last of the instruments

The exhibit is also well underway thanks to our Head Curator and the last pilot to fly 104651 that our aircraft is being refinished as.

The exhibit will include the history of our aircraft in Dutch service, the story of 104651 that our aircraft is being refinished to represent (lost in a bird ingestion in 1980) and the story of the Canadian Starfighters.

At the same time our museum has had all the exhibits updated, display cases refinished and in July all the aircraft are being pulled for a major layout shift that includes moving the entry and exit of the museum.

The new museum look and the Starfighter are scheduled to be unveiled August 3rd at this point.

Will post some pics when I get a chance.

Till Then

Tom H
