Was F4U-4 Corsair BuNo.97359 once registered as N97359 or N97353 back in 1976.

Thanks

The Registry shows it as N97359. http://www.warbirdregistry.org/corsairr ... 97359.html

The number in the registry is a typo. It was registered as N97353. I imagine it was an alternate number due to N97359 being taken up already.

That explains why some old publications had this airframe listed as BuNo.97353

Thanks for your help Rob.

No doubt adding to the confusion, when the plane was flown for the 'Black Sheep Squadron' television series, the 'N' from the FAA registry number was deleted from the fuselage or each plane, so BuNo.97359 literally had '97353' stenciled under the horizontal stabilizer while being filmed, right where the Bureau Number should be.
