I've never seen a more appropriate warbird nose art than this one.

"The Enchantress"

If that doesn't cover what these birds have done to me for the last 45 years, nothing does.

Fairey Flycatcher,
Parnell Possum & Pixie,
Sopwith Cuckoo,
Hawker Hedgehog & Hoopoe
Pre-war Britain had a bunch of great names...designed to strike laughter into the hearts of foes.

Dauntless, Invader, Vindicator, were great names. Flying Fortress, was a bit hokey, but good for PR.

Even though it's pretty well documented that the "Middle River Stump Jumper" was scrapped, I'm still holding out hope that it's tucked away in the back of a junkyard in the Baltimore area....right alongside the Martin Baltimore that was used as an instructional airframe at a local trade school. One can always dream....

Agreed. The fearsome-sounding Hawker Tomtit comes to mind...a name that conjures nightmare images of this particularly-loathsome bird of prey:

To be fair the Hawker Tomtit as a trainer didn't really have have any foes to strike fear into. If we're including trainers (well - a trainer) the Reid and Sigrist Snargasher has to be up there.

Not forgetting the first suggested name for the Spitfire was the Supermarine Shrew. Doesn't have the same ring somehow.

Don't forget the fearsome Gloster Gnatsnapper!

My favorite is "Strange Cargo" - 509th CG silverplate B-29.

I think the Ready 4 Duty name and artwork is quite appropriate. Of course the politically correct further explanation as that it is on an R4D airplane.
