Texas Flying Legends aquires Avenger!!

It appears that Texas Flying Legends has gotten an Avenger, wonder whos it was?? Also rumor is I hear they bought another P-40, P-51, and are thinking about buying Pink Lady from France?? If so this collection is going to be awesome! Now hopefully they fly the Avenger at Wings Over Houston this year!

Well, their website's been updated and have a picture of Danny Summer's plane and the FAA still shows him as the owner, so maybe Danny is joining the gang?

Danny Summers was sadly killed in the crash of one of his Skyraiders a couple of years ago. I know his other Skyraider has now since been owned by Jim Slattery. The image on the Texas Flying Legends web page would seem to hint at the Avenger coming to the collection, though perhaps the purchase/title change has yet to be completed. The collection is already amazing (a few Oshkosh warbird grand champions, and one of the only four/five actively flown Zero's). It will be great to see this collection continue to grow and thrive, and it is spectacular to see all of the collection's aircraft flying together.

Hmmmnn, Monday I got a short glimpse of a warbird formation entering the Ellington pattern being led by a B-25...I didn't mention it at the time, but i could of swore ship#2 was a Turkey.

Both the Avenger and Corsair are past Oshkosh grand champions restored by Airpower Unlimited.

Instead of bringing a B-17 over from France, I wonder if its possible to purchase the B-17 from the Museum of Flight in Seattle. Just a thought. Afterall, everything is for sale!!!!!!

First, sorry for the mistake on Danny. I totally forgot he was killed in the crash. I guess the title is then technically in the hands of the estate and just flown by Jim.

Anyway, on Pink Lady - since it's been grounded after the absolutely idiotic rulings of the European regulators to force airline safety requirements on most older aircraft and the resultant increase in insurance cost, I've heard of several purchase attempts for her. The problem has been a simple one though - once it's bought, the new owner has to get through the muck of getting it approved for ferry to the US, and that has proven to be an extremely expensive issue and has killed the ability of some of the more cash strapped operations to go through with the purchase. I think the guys at Texas Flying Legends have the best chance of being able to minimize the costs of this and get it over for a reasonable rate.

Sure seems like a good way to acquire a B-17 quickly. Unless there are other complete aircraft for sale, everything else would be a substantial project. Hope they get it!

Guys, The Pink Lady was not grounded because of new insurance rules. She was grounded for some other reasons, and is not for sale. She is as of now the centerpiece of the Jean Salis Flying Museum, and is housed in a specially built hall. And She can not be sold.
