Question about the Russell Group Bf-109

Fri Apr 05, 2013 9:16 am

Ha guys,
Does anybody know what happen to the Russell's Group Bf-109? Wasn't it up for sell? Was it sold? Who's the new owner? It's like it up and disappeared.

Would love to see her again,

Last I heard she's still being hangared up at Mr. Russell's field, along with the Hurricane and the Harvard.

It would be nice to see the Hurricane and 109 go to a group like the Texas Flying Legends for the reasons that:

A. They maintain and fly there aircraft CONSTANTLY on a course that covers half of the United States.

B. The 109 and Hurricane would complement the group, giving the Zero a couple of other "foreigners" in the hangar that is otherwise dominated by nothing but American hardware.

While I wouldn't like the fact that planes would suddenly be thousands of miles farther away from me, I would like to see them back in the air and appreciated more.

Chris, they are not as far away as you think.
The entire group of aircraft usually spend the summer in Wisscset, ME!
That's just a few hours drive

Right you are Jerry! Which makes me wonder.... how hard would it be to organize a stop-over for them around our parts? :D

At present the 109 and Hurricane are sitting at Niagara South doing nothing for the past few years now.
i think the Harvard is sitting there also.
AFAIK , there are no plans at present to get them active again
it would be great to see them appear at the Hamilton Airshow along with the Mosquito , Spitfire and other Hurricane

I think the number of hurricanes expected at Hamilton is two. VWOC and MAM's. More is always better! :D Both organizations have Spitfires scheduled as well.
Russells' machines have likely not seen the light of day for a couple of years, never mind been annualled.

The 109 (which I understand is due for engine and propeller maintenance) will require someone with big $$$$ to convince Mr Russell to part with it.
The shows that Ed and Fran hosted, were certainly world class, and are missed in this part of the world.

Chris, I bet you that it would just take some cash to have them stop in Stratford. :D

What a shame. So I guess that means that we can lump them into the "airworthy static display" category then? (Gosh, this smells of what the AirZoo has done with their airplanes... :( )
