L-5 Magneto Issue

We are considering engineering a different magneto system on our L-5. The legacy coils apparently are becoming harder and harder to find. The shop that is working on our bird thinks they can engineer something with a newer type of magneto. This would potentially increase our reliability and hopefully safety as well. Anyone out there done this before? I can't find an STC for this. If you know of one that would be a huge help. I'm not a big fan of reinventing the wheel. The first question to ask, is what magnetos are you running currently?

There is most likely a Slick 6300 series option to fit the O-435, but I have no books in front of me.
