Need help to ID some aircraft in NZ and Australia

Tue Jan 15, 2013 5:47 am

I recently did a trip to NZ and North Queensland and I need some help in the ID of some of the birds that I took photos of if possible please. I have managed to ID all of the others that I took photos of but these below. I did some extensive internet searches with no luck.
These are at MOTAT

P-51 Mustang NZ2410 is apparently an ex Indonesian example. Anyone able to confirm the identity at all?

The first photo is a Handley Page Hastings, and what you thought was an Anson is an Airspeed Oxford.

The CAC Wackett will likely go unidentified as the ID plate was burnt off in a fire (as related to me by Sid himself)

The MOTAT website used to be quite good, now we have to rely on external sites like

Are you not trusting what is on the museum website?
http://www.airforcemuseum.co.nz/main/Co ... dCatalina/
http://www.airforcemuseum.co.nz/main/No ... anMustang/

If you have more questions, feel free to ask at http://rnzaf.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Airshows
Forum members include current and former RNZAF Museum workers (it's great when everyone on the behind-the-scenes tour is on WONZ, and we go to the pub afterwards). Recent pages on the MOTAT thread include photos of the Mosquito's arrival in a very poor state!

G'Day...
As a point of interest the Avenger is not a TBM but an authentic Grumman-built TBF-1C .
Also, for future A/C ID reference you might enjoy http://www.adf-serials.com This website covers both Australian and New Zealand aircraft and serials.

BTW, were you able to get a photo(s) of the Hudson at MoTaT ??

Thank you all very much for your replies and Help. As for the RNZAF website I have not figured out how to navigate it yet for the other aircraft
The Sea Venom is Not N4-904 as that aircraft is directly opposite it and complete, I have also looked on adf serials with no luck.

As for the wacket trainer, that is a shame that the id will be lost forever.

John, I managed to photograph the Hudson, Ventura and Loadstar at Motat.

Brenden:

Any possibility of you posting the photos of the Hudson, Ventura and Lodestar?? I visited Motat in 1980 and the entire collection was sitting outside unprotected from the elements.

Damm shame you didn't ask to speak to Sid about them (not syd by the way). Hes very approachable and despite the health issues of his wife (and all that entails) he does make time for like minded people

I will be heading up Cairns way again in May for my mates birthday as I am buying him a ride in the T-28 while I go in the P-40 if Mike has flown his 100hrs in it. So I will ask Sid then about the id of the aircraft.

No worries, It is a very nice drop tank as I had a close look at it when I was up there. I take it you made it from scratch?

No it was 100% original, had a lot of P40-E Parts which I subsequently sold on as well
