Harvard in RAF colors?

Tue Dec 11, 2012 3:05 pm

Anybody aware of any restored Texans/Harvards/SNJ's done up in pseudo RAF day fighter camoflauge? Were any examples ever historically operated in such a scheme? A friend is preparing a model for finish and would like to do the green/gray/sky color scheme. Lots of Google searching has returned only a single example operating in Australia in something approximating the scheme but just barely. Any leads much appreciated.

you might want to try airliners.net if you haven't already; a quick search under "RAF T6" returned a couple:

How about WIX's own Ollie and his father's Harvard?

A unique scheme with a purpose.

John Rainer operates a Harvard in Australia in RAF Desert camo based on wartime photos of one that served with the RAAF No.3 Squadron in Africa.

Here are some images of the original and the current representation on the ADF-Serials website.

This may be the one referred to above?

NZ or South Africa may also be a source of a RAF camo scheme but modified for the RNZAF or SAAF?

Ross Robinson's Harvard from St. Andrews Manitoba. He owns and flies the A26 Invader a former water bomber in the RCAF euro camo scheme as well.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force's wartime fighter squadrons, fighter operational training units and its army co-operation squadrons all operated Harvards in the standard RAF camouflage, Plus in a few local variations of such too.

You can see oodles of photos on this thread (44 pages and counting) http://rnzaf.proboards.com/index.cgi?bo ... read=17601

For me the best if No. 22 (Army Co-op) Squadron's Harvards which each had a Disney character artwork on their camouflage.

Thank you gentlemen for all the responses. I knew the WIX crew would come through!

For the record, SAAF Harvards were never operated in Camo other than several examples that were painted up in a a very ad-hoc and messy scheme for a short period the bush war and they carried no markings

Can you clarify if this refers to John Rayner's Victoria based RAAF 3 Sqn North Africa (sand, stone, azure blue) scheme example, or something else? Thanks!

If this is on the list for consideration, it's worth reiterating it's an authentic scheme, rather than a warbird trainer-pretending-fighter paintjob.

Here is a pic of a Harvard undergoing restoration in South Africa about 18 months ago ..registration ZU-BTL
I have not seen it completed so I dont know what other markings or camo was added but I was told that it was an authentic scheme.
