Interesting to note that the F-86 was described as an "old jet" in the paper in 1972.

I would tend to believe that they have brought it out at this particular time to coincide with a certain race going on just over the mountains in Nevada. Not necessarily to remember this particular tragedy. Otherwise, they would have remembered 40 years ago...today...., not 40 years ago in a few weeks..... But that's just my opinion.

I dare say if something like that happened today, warbird jets would be legislated out of existence.
Not banned (that would be too obviously heavy-handed), but operations made so hard that they'd be parked. Not to mention insurance issues and costs.

The same goes for piston warbirds...every operator needs to realize that their (our) rights are always hanging by a thread.
I'm surprised there hasn't been more of a fallout from the Reno crash.

I'm glad. But what we may not see, might be more deadly to warbird operations. Im just saying their might be more behind the scenes than most of us know.

Given the government's apprehension with letting civilians fly ex-military jets, they just might ban them outright. There would be a huge public outcry, politicians at every level would jump on the bandwagon, and the pressure on the FAA to "do something about this outrageous problem" would be pretty heavy.

I have to wonder how different the reaction would be if it was a business jet instead of a warbird jet? When airliners crash and kill innocent people on the ground, it seems to be considered "tragic, but one of those risks we just have to live with".

We have tried several times to take the Wings of Freedom Tour into Sacramento Executive, and that is one of very few airports in the country that will not even consider a tour stop. The people at the airport there talk about this event like it was yesterday. I had not heard of this unfortunate event the first time I talked to them (was not born when it happened), and I had to go to google to get the details. After getting off the phone with them I thought it had happened 3-4 years ago and I had missed it. It was not until I did some research that I found out it was in 1972. I am kind of surprised that the airport is even still an airport with the way that neighborhood was impacted by that event. If this happened today, that airport would be a row of track homes in less than 10 years. I think this accident went a long way towards the development of better airport containment systems at the end of runways.

ooh god nothing like building stuff near an airport then complaining about the noise or the odd fighter jet crashing on your ice cream parlor!humans are stupid!this crap goes on here all the time urban crawl encroaches on an airport that was built away from everything and then the developers buy cheep land (because its next to an air port) how bout sueing the developers for misrepresentation!!!
