This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Didn't notice if this was mentioned elsewhere. Sorry if it's a repeat.
Saw this in our local paper. Love his books and their aviation connection

Wow! almost in my backyard, There's a private grass strip about 3 miles West of Friday Harbor airport on Lopez Island next to Zyistra Lake (the island is also home to some guitar hack named Steve Miller

and a guy who had a LOT of power in 60's rock-n-roll, Pat O'Day

who started something called 'Concerts West' which became 'Ticket Bastards..er...Masters' ).
I enjoyed 'Messiah' & 'Stranger to the Ground' but JLS was a bit too 'squishy' for my tastes.

I met him many years ago when he was still rich from JLS.
I since read that he got divorced, went broke, remarried and had more bestsellers about methphysics and romance. He got divorced again, then he wrote well-selling books about aircraft flying ferrets...which I haven't read.
He invited me to the premiere of Nothing By Chance...a nice film about modern day Barnstorming (and based on the bok) that he wrote and appeared in.
Seemed like a nice guy. At a fly-in last year I met one of the guys who flew with hin in the book Nothing by Chance.
Best wishes for a full recovery.

Thoughts and Prayers..
Although his later stuff got a bit too new-agey for my tastes, "Illusions" is still one of my all-time favorite books (I read it long before JLS.) A co-worker gave me a copy back in the early 80s, saying "you might like this..it's got airplanes in it."
Of course the book has one glaring inaccuracy: the title character is said to have been born in "the mystical hills east of Fort Wayne" (Indiana.) I've driven through that region countless times and can tell you it's flat as a pancake.
Get well soon, Richard!

I hope he heals well. I just re-read "Biplane" last summer.

One of the first books I ever read about aviation was written by him. A truly inspiring soul. I hope he keeps flying.

If I'm not mistaken Richard Bach wrote about crashing his P-51, I think it was a take-off accident.
Once I landed at Friday Harbor in a C-172 and the front wheel developed this crazy shimmey and the ELT went off on the roll out. I think it was my mistake for not applying adequate backpressure... I was a novice and feeling the stress of landing on a runway the width of a road.

Thoughts go out for a speedy and full recovery.
Interesting that I picked up my copies of Biplane and Illusions to re-read just last week.

9/8/12 Harborview Hospital in Seattle reports in a press release in the newspaper that Mr. Bach remains in serious condition and is still hospitalized with head injuries and as broken collarbone.

My friend Kas Thomas, the one-time aviation writer, tells me Dick is out of the ICU, at least.

Good news, I didn't realize it was that serious.
