Tropical storm Issac

Fri Aug 24, 2012 5:16 pm

It looks like as of now tropical storm Issac (in a few days possibly a hurricane) is headed for landfall in the greater Pensacola area. What preperations do they take at the NMNA in the event of a storm like this? Do they just tie down the planes outside and hope for the best or is there someplace the planes can be pushed where they would be at least partially under cover?

Don't want to make anyone nervous, but this IS the 20th Anniversary of Hurricane Andrew

20 years already! Yikes, where does the time go? Isn't Kermit Weeks still dealing with planes damaged by that monster storm?

NNAM can get a lot of birds into Bldg 3221, the restoration hangar.
Bigger stuff like the PB4Y and P-3 will be tied down.

Hey Owen, Has the museum started making plans for the storm yet or is it a little bit to soon? Is the PB4Y still scheduled for indoor display soon?

(My favorite part of this link is the caption...I can just picture the fellow searching Wiki for the engine dash number, rather than just looking at the actual photo to see it's an R-2600 from her waterbombing days. Ah, we warbird geeks are a sad lot...more rum lads! :drinkers: )
