Crash site of B-24 11593 Black Maria II, capt. John H. Payne

After a lot of informations, news and photos, today the Salerno 1943 Air Finders finally explored thanks to help of Giovanni Marino the crash site of B-24 11593 Black Maria II of John H. Payne, shot down 11 january 1943 after bombing Naples.

Other crew members:

Norman R. Angell - Portland, Oregon (he was heavily wounded and died on 14 Jan 1943).
Merle J. Andrews - Springfield, Illinois
Cecil G. Buttram -Crossville, Tennessee
Harold C. Vanness - Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, Italy
Daniel W. Brown
Julius P. Lewis, navigator

The two survivors were Robert R. Krager and Theodore D. Drazkowski.
Krager was from Nebraska and became POW in a camp in Austria, while Drazkowski was held in a POW camp in Italy. He was from Michigan.

This looks like a part of the distributor for a magneto from one of the engines. The numbers reference the firing order and the holes near them are where the ignition wires attach.
