P-38 Lightning Cockpit

Sun Jul 15, 2012 9:32 am

Hello all,

I know this is a little bit of a long shot, but I am wondering if anybody has any drawings, diagrams and high resolution photographs of the P-38 cockpit? I am currently working on a 3D model of the P-38 and I would like to make a start on the cockpit. It would be very useful to have diagrams show the exact shape of the instrument panel and the position of instruments.

Thank you,

Rob.

Good morning Rob just a quick Google search finds several high resolution photos of what you are looking for. Are you in need of something more specific?

Hi Mark, thanks for the interest.

I did the same search and found some nice photographs but, ideally, I would be looking for some as perpendicular to the instrument panel as possible. This would enable me to make the shape as accurate as possible. I think the best possible outcome would be something similar to this:

What model of P-38 cockpit are you looking for?

The P-38 J would be perfect. I've been having a look around and found these on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110915576360? ... 401wt_1396 I'm just curious as to their accuracy?

Thanks for the welcome. Nope, not my site. I just remembered stumbling over it while searching for the same thing as Rob.

Has anyone ever found pictures of the inside to the nose to a droop snoot P-38? I have not been able to find any?

That's one of those very elusive subjects..the only photos I've seen that show any interior detail at all are shots taken from outside, and even they don't show much.

I have a shot of the inside of the F-5 recon nose that was on display at Chino; would that be any help?

Sure, it might have some of the same details. It seemed that there were no official pictures taken of the bombardier section taken. The best I can hope for is that someone who flew them might have some drawing or pictures in their personal library and post them.

Do you think you know what all the guages and toggles are for? Would this be the best resolution of the pic that you have. A friend of mine and I have been looking for years and this is a new picture to us. We would really like to know the lay out.
