Hindenburg Pics

Sat Jul 07, 2012 11:39 am

A friend sent this to me. It has some great historical pics I've never seen before. Slide 22 has a video link at the bottom. The video is came from someone's collection. I haven't seen that angle before. Slide 9 is a Coast Guard RD-4 escorting the Hindenburg, probably taking pics and video also.

Really nice pictures. I liked the S-43 shot with the Akron in the background.

I understand that, before someone with more science brain cells than promoter brain cells put the Kibosh to it, the original plan for the spire on the Empire State building had been envisioned as a portal to enter and exit Dirigibles via a detachable ramp in downtown Manhattan--uh, you first

I've heard that also. A bit of googling turned up this NY times article.

I think that the OP is correct in identifying it as an RD-4 and not an S-43. Randy

My grandmother grew up in Germany, and she took pictures of the Hindenburg when she was a kid as it flew over her house. One of my uncles has the pictures now. I have a large picture somewhere at home, that was taken in New Jersey in 37 as it flew over a log cabin(ebay find).
