This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

FAH 609 Folks/FMAH Admin Folks:
Good day!!
We gave you credit for the cosmetic work done on the R/L elevators last April 2012!! We were under the impression then that we were heading in a better direction.
That you have future plans to contact previous FAH mechanics & restoration folks as well as the help of student mechanics within FAH is ok. However, while all these future plans/projects take place our FAH 609 continues in slow deterioration. We'll let the warbird audience see what the sun damage, rain & humidity can do in just 2 months of outside storage to the R/L elevators area.
We offer you as a donation/logistic help of $500.00 green ones if you move this fine flying machine 700 ft fwd to its previous storage hangar while more concrete plans take place. Deadline: Will 27 June 2012 at 24:00 Hrs sounds ok with you! Photo via pista01.com. You get the Jeep & we'll send also the tow bar!!
Plz send us the pictures!!

to undestand these people you need emphaty, this is, put their shoes in your feet. zorro7 has done this. he believes that the museum administrators have to respond to him or explain to him their job. who is he?? has he been a member?? has he moved in usa asking for help?? believe me, in other forums he made offers to others for photos, they did, and they are still wating the money. this is a strategy he always does but he never pays.
he has donated nothing so far. why does he claim the museum members to respond to him????why??
how would you feel that someone tell you: do this, do that. and he does anything next to you???
he is in the united states, they are in honduras. only they know how hard can be to obtain founds and knocking doors that will never be open because thay just don´t want to help. from the united states thay have received nothing, nothing, and probably it will continue like that, it does not matter how many forums he post the same topic. the only work that will count is the one done home. they sweat, they work, they move, day by day, after work, after classes. the only benefit they get is to see the project grow because they are volunteers.
you will never see zorro7 cleaning the park, attending the schools, students or the people going there, that´s what they do after their jobs, during weekends instead to be with their families. zorro7 just sit in a computer telling the others to do a job he is not willing to do. ask him, when is the going to honduras to do that.
i personally have done it, as volunteer and i know how hard it is, that why i have emphaty with them, because i have tried their shoes at least a while, zorro7 doesn´t.
beside that, he only believes the museum is created just to that plane and it is not. the museum has a wider view, it is about ALL the honduran history in aviation. this is just ONE plane, it is not falling apart, it stood outside 25 years in front of the officers club, 25 YEARS!!!! did it fall apart in pieces?? was it destroyed??? it still in the same conditions!!!!
why don´t you gather money, send it and later claim??? those are the steps. fell emphaty and be in their shoes!!

Hey Jack973, I'm sure in some way myself and others here feel your frustration with this zorro7 fellow, but why not try this. Simply ignore the guy until your folks at the museum actually receive $500.00 from him that he claims to wish to offer. getting into these public forum pissing matches just makes you look like a fool as well. Just wait and see if he puts his money where his mouth is. Really that simple. I'm sure your at your wits end with him, but at least let the guy come through with his offer. If he's just blowing steam, then banish him from thought and conversation. Especially on a public forum such as this one.
Most members here on WIX have a great sense of judgement of charactor. We can usually weed out the BS in a hurry. I would respectfully suggest concentrating your energy for better use and backing away from this guy and getting on with the business of properly trying to secure your Corsair from the elements.
I would also suggest you possibly start a new thread here on WIX and ask important questions such as what would be the best short term, and long term, plan for preservation of the Corsair with very little or no financial resourses at this time. Bickering about things is only adding down time to an already bad situation.
Just my 2cents

wise words mark, wise words.
i keep them in mind. i believe the time will give me the reasons. the museum members will continue doing the necessary actions to improve, even if some other don´t like it. Gen. Collin Powel said: BEING RESPONSIBLE NOT NECESSARLY MEANS MAKING EVERYBODY HAPPY. he continues saying that some actions are done because they are necessary to be done, even if the actors are not happy to do it. i feel this is the case.
in the last tread about this topic 8 months passed and zorro7´s actions have never showed up. he never posted:" i sent $$$$ so have a right to claim". when they finish the project, in all the splendor, articles in newspapers will be written, pictures of the memebers will be taken, congratulations of the autorities will received, and in all of that, zorro7, (who ever he is), won´t apper, his name won´t be mentioned, because he will never contribute firmly with the project. he will just remain as a simple nick.
thanks mark.

Well your welcome ... I think anyway

I've always tried to live by very simple rules and the one that sticks out in my mind all the time is "Don't tell me what you will do, show me what you have done" "The World rewards not those who proclaim, but those who produce" ...
Get that airplane properly taken care of, no excuses from any of you involved any longer. It's your national treasure and heritage, NOT ours up here. If I had anything to do with the running of this website I would suspend all posts from both of you until you come up with some constructive results on that Corsair. Not punishing you at all, just a little kick in the *ss to get going and get things done. Don't start next week or next month, start today and make your people down there and more importantly yourself proud of your results. Come on now.

We're watching and wishing you the best of luck.

This can be done without mentioning names.
Simply leave off mention of people and it will appear the actual focus will be the Aircraft. That is what it is all about. You, me , Zorro7 aren't the focus. A deteriorating piece of history is.
In the same time as you mentioned nothing has changed for the Corsair. You talk of glory but the plan hasn't been shown. What steps need to be done haven't been explained. The process of achieving success in these steps isn't known so how can it be measured.
From this side of the debate you haven't shown anything for us to root for, help out with. We would like to cheer you on but from a public relations stand point your going backwards.

I'm not sure I understand why this plane hasn't been moved as Zorro has requested. Is there something preventing it? I, like many others I'm sure, have got a bit sick of seeing these posts over and over again. Zorro, if you have 500 bucks, pony up. That would buy a concrete pad and a cover here in Mississippi. I'm sure it would go a long way towards fixing your problem there as well. But if you don't have the money, and you're BSing, then please STFU and let the grown ups deal with the problem. You'd have to be stupid to think they aren't just as concerned as you about it, so obviously there's something preventing progress. Instead of whining that they aren't doing anything get off your butt and do it yourself. In the meantime, quit posting the same BS over and over here. We're tired of it.

Given the nature of things it is hard to know who is in charge down there.
Just sending money without knowing what is identified as goals, what plans in in place to achieve the goals and who is in charge of the projects could see the money wasted.
The nature of discussions so far show they are in serious need of a good PR promotion.

the director in charge of the museum is a former commander of the FAH. as i mentioned before and some others, now or later, the museum will grow accoding to the necessities of the country. the job will be done by the members there and for sure the corsair will be in a good place. everthing will be done without the help of zorro7.
as he demand, I demand him to first give the money and later talk. AS SIMPLE AS THAT, as zorro7 has said before. first, send money zorro7 later talk. can yu do that???
the plane is not without care, you don´t know that. he has just placed pictures. i still don´t know how to do it but i have pictures that would say how has been the help this man, zorro7, has done. HE did the cosmetic repairs!!!!! with tape!!!! and just lasted 1 month.
time will pass and zorro7 will never cooperate.

does anybody have info. to google earth this location? Just curious about the musuem and the outside exibit

Not sure why I still feel the need to post on this thread because it certainly feels like an effort in futility. I guess it's because I have a passion for these old aircraft and I somewhat have a connection to Corsairs as my dad flew them for a while, but as long as you two continue to bicker and try to discredit each other, your Corsair continues to suffer and deteriorate. And this is the result that it seems neither of you really want to happen correct?
Many times
volunteer man hours equate to just as much, if not more, than
financial contributions. Again with all the effort you two are placing on trying to justify each others lack of effort to your cause, you both could be working side by side to achieve a much better solution to the current state of F4U-5 FAH 609. Don't you think that's much more important than waging a war here on WIX? I think so.
Get along and work together for the sake of that airplane and it's history .... please!!!

The image on Google Maps is apparently fairly old. Enter "Toncontin" into the Google Maps search field. It will find the airport. The FAH base is to the right of the main runway. The Electra is still sitting on the airfield among the large gathering of "dead and dying" transport planes. I didn't see the Corsair anywhere. Zoom all the way in and then scroll around the area. You can plainly see where the museum is, and the P-63 on a stick is visible to the left of the hangar. Maybe I've missed the Corsair somehow, but I sure didn't see it. I haven't tried any other satellite imagery provider.
I'd love to contribute some money toward preserving this very historic Corsair. But I'm not sending a penny until I see an official plan, published by the Museum, telling exactly how they plan to move forward with restoring and preserving the airplane.

If anyone sent the museum $500 how exactly would those funds be used?
I worked out of the Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino Calif in my youth. This place was a bunch of A/C in the dirt and weeds for many years during its early years. That was back in the 1970s. It didn't have a hangar but did use the WWII engine overhaul shop building to house some A/C. It took vision, planning and leadership and over the years it has grown. Today it has 5 hangars and many expansions of those hangars.
They have mission statements, multiple core parts to these missions, they compete for corporate donations, matching donations, and donations of material. They have a volunteer corps of many dozens of people from multiple backgrounds. They have a board and President, Vice-presidents ect to oversee and direct operations. They have annual airshows to generate revenue and have a vision for the future.
Your museum doesn't have to be like POF but what is the vision and mission down there? Like I said, it isn't about you or Zorro7, it has to be about the museum and the aircraft.
