B-17F......41-24583 / 41-24500

Sun May 27, 2012 6:16 pm

Gent's,

I need some help chasing down what happened to two B-17's. I checked a B-17 website that had the disposition of the B-17's and these two numbers were skipped. 41-24500 may have been called Annie Freeze? 41-24583 was the B-17 doing the air drops of rescue supplies in the famous PN9E (another B-17, #42-5088) survival and rescue case in Greenland from Nov '42 to Apr '43. Afterward, both the 24583 and 24500 were involved in the bombing raid on the German weather station in NE Greenland.

42-5088 was a fairly new B-17.

Thanks....John

Thanks!!

What did you find out about the 41-24583? That is the main one I was hoping to get some info on.

The 42-5088 is split in two pieces and is (or was??) still under the ice about 40-45 miles west of the Lost Squadron site.

Thank you very much!!!!

The 5088 crashed 11/9/42 and is still in Greenland either under numerous hundreds of feet of ice or sitting in the bottom of fjord by now...see my earlier post.

Might chase down two PBY's next.

John,
What I gave you is straight from Baughers serial numbers site, any discrepancies or conflicting info you have should be addressed towards him.

No worries. Thank you very much once again. Did a little sniffing around and located these pics of Annie Freeze.
