RCAF and the PW4360???

Fri May 18, 2012 10:25 pm

Hey you canadian heritage WIX members I got a question for ya. What did the RCAF have that was powered by the "Corncob"?
I was sorting some army truck parts as he is retiring so alot is headed for scrap and we found a box that was part of the canadian military surplus of truck parts that he brought back to the USA. Well in a box was a couple of contraptions with a harness and some paperwork. It says "Installation and timing instructions, synchronizing breaker assemblies 10-35330-1, 10-35370-1 and 10-77120-1 and in the directions, it talks about timing the 4360B engine.

This is from SCINTILLA Mags and the kit is NOS. Kind of neat to find among some ole truck parts. BTW we also found some Champion spark plugs for the early Contintental A-65...........definate WW2.

You can send those parts to us if they'll fit a 4360-59B.

I had thought that too August, but I have yet to find any records of C-119G's in RCAF service.
By the records I have, 21101-21135 were all C-119F's purchased directly from Fairchild.
Some of the early ones were delivered without the ventral tail fins, but were later retrofitted.
I guess the only difference between the F and the G is that the G was fitted with Aeroproducts propellers as compared to the Ham Standards on the F.

However one USAF C-119C (fitted with R-4360's) was used on trials in October 1950 which eventually led to the purchase of the 35 Boxcars, but I doubt that the timing device Jeff found is from that.

Perhaps it was on hand just in case a USAF B-36, B-50 or KC-97 dropped by an RCAF base and needed repairs?
